E-40 Epoxy Tank and Metal Coating
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
DUAYEN E-40 is a low volatility, two component epoxy based coating.
SCOPE OF APPLICATION
It is used in metal tanks, waste water plants, chemical plants, petrochemical plants where high resistance to solvents and corrosive chemicals is required.
FEATURES
It has excellent chemical, mechanical and thermal resistance.
Easy to apply.
It is economical.
It is liquid impermeable.
The cured state is non-toxic.
Glossy surface finish.
APPLICATION
General System Structure:
Primer: Duayen AS – 148 or epoxy moisture barrier
Secondary Primer or topcoat: DUAYEN E-40
Consumption/Dosage
Coating System Product Consumption
Primer Duayen AS – 148 0.35 - 0.55 kg/m²
Roll coating 2 layers DUAYEN E-40 0.25 - 0.3 kg/m² per layer
The above consumption values are theoretical and do not include the need for additional material depending on the surface porosity, profile, leveling differences and loss. Duayen E-40 can be used alone without a primer. It is recommended to use 0.25 kg/m2 – 0.40kg/m2 on moisture-free surfaces.
SURFACE AND SURFACE PREPARATION
CONCRETE:
Surface quality
The concrete substrate must be clean, strong and have sufficient compressive strength (at least 25 N/mm²), with a pull off strength of at least 1.5 N/mm².
The substrate must be clean, dry and free of foreign materials such as dirt, oil, grease, coatings and surface curing materials. In case of doubt, try it.
Surface Preparation
Concrete substrates should be prepared using abrasive equipment to remove the cement laitance and obtain an open porous surface.
Weak concrete should be removed, eyelets and holes should be made completely open.
High places on the surface should be cleaned by abrading.
All dust, loose and loose particles must be removed from the surface with a brush and/or vacuum cleaner before applying the product.
Concrete or screed surfaces should be smoothed with repair mortar, primed or leveled to obtain a smooth surface.
NOTE:
There are different surface preparation processes and different primer applications that need to be done on metals, metal alloys, plastics, composites and difficult surfaces. For these procedures, please contact our technical team. Do not use the product without surface preparation.
Application Conditions / Limitations:
Substrate Temperature Minimum +10°C / Maximum +40°C
+3°C above the Ambient Dew Point
Ambient Temperature Minimum +10°C / Maximum +40°C
Surface Moisture content < 5% by weight
Relative Humidity 80% Max.
In order to reduce the risk of condensation and bubble formation at the surface, the surface temperature to be applied should be at least 3°C above the dew point. Failure to comply with these conditions may result in non-adhesion problems on the surface.
Note: Although this product is specially designed and protected with preservatives, low temperature and high humidity conditions will delay the curing time and increase the possibility of carbonization.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
Mixture
component A: component B = 5 : 3 (by weight)
Mixing Time: Mix component A mechanically before mixing. After adding component B to component A completely, mix continuously for 2 minutes until a uniform mixture is obtained.
In order to make sure that the mixture is fully made, put the ingredients in another container and mix again until you get a smooth mixture. This prevents the unmixed product remaining on the sides of the container from forming a negative surface. Let it rest for a while, the rested product will effectively reduce the problems of bubbles, carbonization and moisture.
To minimize air entrainment, avoid mixing too much and revving too high.
Mixing Tools
DUAYEN E-40 should be mixed thoroughly with a low speed (300-400 rpm) electric mixer or other suitable equipment (mixing time 30 seconds with good mixing action). After mixing, pour the product into a clean bucket of the same size and mix again (mixing time 90 seconds).
APPLICATION METHOD
Before application, confirm that the surface moisture, relative humidity and dew point requirements are met.
Covering:
DUAYEN E-40 can be applied as a coating with a short pile roller (in two perpendicular directions)
Final coat:
Topcoats can be spread with a squeegee and then rolled over with a short pile roller (in a diagonal direction).
Application Notes/ Limitations
Do not apply DUAYEN E-40 in places where moisture escapes from the surface. Do not blunt the primer with sand. When you encounter this situation, you can get help from our technical team. Freshly applied DUAYEN E-40 should be protected from moisture, condensation and water for at least 24 hours.
Do not allow the primer to pool on the surface.
For rolled/textured coatings: Uneven surfaces as well as dirty areas cannot and should not be covered with thin coatings. Therefore, both the surface and adjacent areas should always be prepared and thoroughly cleaned prior to application.
Improper assessment and treatment of cracks can reduce service life andmay cause the crack to reflect on the coating.
For exact color matching, make sure that each area is made from the same serial numbered production of DUAYEN E-40.
Under certain conditions, underfloor heating systems or high ambient temperatures combined with high point loads can form streaks in the resin.
If heating is required, do not use gas, oil, paraffin or other fossil fuel heaters as they produce large amounts of CO2 and H2O water vapor which can affect the surface appearance. Use only electrical, warm air blowing systems for heating.
